11.11.11

For many reasons, we waited to have my Grandma's funeral, and I'm glad we did.  While I do miss her, and always will I am not sad.  I know that she is where she wants to be.  I know that she loved the celebration of her life that we had.

These pictures are from inside Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral.  My Grandma had been a parishioner there since the 1950's.  It was beautiful!   The last time I was there was for my Grandpa's funeral so I didn't remember too much about it, but wow!  Look at those windows.

We had a lovely service at the gravesite.  The Mass is a spirtual celebration, and the gravesite is more of a personal one.  The Priest blessed the site and her spirit, he was a very good man.  So glad he took care of my Grandma.  Then I spoke, then my sweet little and angel Lia got up there all by herself and belted out "I Am a Child of God" ~ probably the sweetest moment of parenthood for Billy and I, really it was incredible!
How beautiful are those flowers?!!

My Aunt Guin made the cover, it's a work of art!

These arrangements tell a story, my grandma always had the most beautiful cali lilies and birds of paradise growing in her front yard... but the florist put in some bells of Ireland and I think that was for my cute Irish Grandpa.

The flowers vases and mirrors were from my evening of excellence at church the other night and they looked so beautiful here!

My Aunt had the event catered by Mu, I was in heaven for sure!

Billy took these cute shots of lil' toot.

someone loved the pumpkin cake...

Hey Olivia, where's Lia????

Still Lookin' huhh???

There she is!

Happy times!

If you wanted to have a really good time, this is the group you have to sit with!  This is the my Aunt and Uncle + the Canadians.

My cousins and Andrea's family.

Technically these are just friends, but I think that's an insult to say, they are family and so close to our hearts!

Oh my sweet Hayden.

How many ways do I love this sweet girl?!!!

And Haydens mom.  She and I met 27 years ago at the bus stop on our first day of kindergarten.  I'm lucky to have her in my life!

Everyone was pooped out by the end.

Judy came and took pictures of the day for us, so I had to take a couple of her.

He got so tired of people trying to steal his toys that this is where I finally found him.  (He's under a table and I had to lift up the table cloth.)

Grandma's Obituary~ I'm not lying when I tell you she's incredible!

Early in the morning of October 27th Olga (Pryznyk) Cassidy passed on to be with her Heavenly Father.  Olga passed at home peacefully surrounded by family.

Olga was born on August 23, 1924 the eleventh of twelve children to John and Sophia Pryznyk, immigrants from Poland, in Bienfait in Saskatchewan, Canada.  During World War II, Olga served in the Women's Royal Enlisted Navy (WRENs). During her service she met George Cassidy, who was also serving in the Royal Canadian Navy.  He would go on to say that he fell in love with the sweet lady in the pink angora sweater he met on a train. They were married May 5th 1945.  In 1946 Olga gave birth to their first child, Kathleen Mary, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  Following Kathleen, they were blessed with their first son George ‘David’ in 1947.  Olga cherished her role of being a mother and wife.  The Cassidy’s continued to call Canada their home until they immigrated to San Bernardino, California in the early 1950’s

Even though George, Olga, Kathleen and David all became naturalized American citizens, they continued to consider Canada their homeland.  Most of their extended family still live there and they visited frequently.

Upon moving to California, they bought a home on 25th street in San Bernardino.  The family would continue to live in the house until this day, watching the area grow up around them.  George went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad as a Switchman, while Olga continued her favorite role as a mother.  She also was quite active in the community, joining such organizations such as the Davidson Elementary School PTA, Campfire Girl Leader The Ladies Auxiliary of the UTU (United Transportation Union) and Catholic Daughters.  She was also very active in the local little league, being instrumental in the building of the Barta Field Baseball Complex.

In 1954 they were blessed with another daughter Eileen Anne and then a son, Gerald (Gerry) Francis in 1962.

As her kids grew up and left the nest, Olga did not let that slow her down. She continued being active in all of her organizations adding things like being a Charter member of the San Bernardino National Kidney Foundation and working as a campaign volunteer for Rep. George Brown. She also held many jobs, such as at the original Harris’ department store.

In 1980, Olga enrolled in a golf class at Crafton Hills College and a new passion was found.  She and George spent their retirement years playing golf every chance they got. She served as officer and president of the Colton Women’s Golf Club Association and could be found on the golf course on a daily basis. She proudly wore her gold “Hole in One” charms around her neck everyday.

Olga also found a new role in life that she absolutely cherished, Grandmother.  Her first grandchild, George ‘Alan’ was born in 1973 to David and his wife Mary Mills.  They went on to give George and Olga two more grandchildren, Alison Marie and Richard Adam.  Her daughter Eileen and her husband Tim Sanborn had their first child Ruth Katheryn in 1980 and then soon after followed Erin Eileen.  Olga immediately fell into the role of the ideal Grandmother and loved every minute of it.

In the 1990’s Olga was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.  She did not let it slow her down.  She continued to do the things she loved such as golfing, visiting family in Canada and being a Mother and Grandmother.  Olga was also a lifetime member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in San Bernardino, CA.

Olga lost her daughter, Joanne in 1955, her husband George in 1989, followed by her son-in-law Tim Sanborn in 2006 and finally, her eldest son George ‘David in 2007.

Olga is survived by her eldest daughter Kathleen, daughter Eileen, son Gerry and wife Guinevere and her daughter in law Mary Cassidy and her husband Jorge Landa.  She is also survived by her Grandchildren: Alan and his wife Andrea Cassidy, Alison Cassidy, Adam Cassidy, Erin Sanborn, Katie Sanborn and her husband William McIntosh. Her Great-Grandchildren are Lia, Sophie and Tommy McIntosh and Olivia Cassidy.

Her legacy of love, loyalty, service and compassion will live on through everyone who knew her.

Services will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral in San Bernardino, Ca. on November 11th at 10:00am

I just got the news that a little over an hour ago my sweet Grandma went peacefully in her sleep. I love her so much and will be forever grateful for everything she ever did for me (and growing up that was alot!)
I will miss her sweet smile and silly laugh. I'm so glad my girls got to spend time with her and get to know her.
That's the only part that really hurts, we have to tell them.  It breaks my heart to even think about it.
GOD BE WITH YOU 'TIL WE MEET AGAIN GG!

Wowza!

Tommy loves toothpaste, alteast he wasn't eating it this time... it's the kids stuff so don't worry too much!
My trophy!

Our Pre-School fieldtrip to the Pumpkin Patch.

he took off with out me... it was kind of nice.

Next to my mom, Mrs. Kim is his favorite person ever!

We took a tree maze to pick our pumpkins...  James and I kept losing our little ones, but we kept hearing them laughing and screaming so we knew they were close.

She, of course, had to pick the smallest one, luckily she tripped and dropped it and we got a much bigger one!
on our tour...

Part of our class.

And my niece Elise was nominated for REV's homecoming queen!!!

Fun family times!

As they were coming down, I was thinking of everything they've been through... and I started to cry, they deserved such a happy moment!!!
Lia in her costume, watching Elise and Nern.

Then Lia got her turn!  ha ha ha!!!

I was holding Tommy and trying to take these... it didn't turn out very well.  They hurt your eyes they're so blurry!

SHE WOOOOOOOOOOOON!

And we celebrated Tommy's 2nd birthday!

This was the ugly cake.  If I had good cake decorating stuff (and skills) I wanted to make this look like a tire, because I wrote "2 Goodyears with Tommy" like Goodyear tires...  Tommy loves cars!

I made sandwiches and prepped all of the toppings, easy and really good!  My mom and sis did the salad and chips. I'm so grateful to have them on my team, I couldn't have done it with out them!  (I was teaching a class at Super Saturday until 2)

Then the fun cake!

Baby Olivia got her first balloon, she took some home and my cousin told me that she is still playing with them... she even fell asleep holding onto the ribbon during her nap today!

Ready to watch a soccer game!

Oak Glen field trip.

We met Johnny Appleseed.  (Do you know why he wears a pan on his head?  My girls do.)

Making yummy cider.

You can only see this part on a guided tour...  This is the oldest functioning line/hopper (atleast that's what we called it at Jon-Lin) in the United States.

It's where they wash and separate the apples.

I found a good one!
And ended in literally the coolest place ever!  The refrigeration room... That my dad and Grandpa built a looooooooooong time ago.  You could feel them in there, it looks just like my Grandpa Tommy's shop up in Escalante!

We went to Law's and waited 2 hours for our food to come...  and it was still worth it!

skills....

Don't you think blue is his color?!!!
September 21st was the first International Alzheimer's Awareness Day, and to show your support you were just supposed to wear purple.  I sold purple hairbows and gave the money to and Alz. Charity, my beehives made 75 purple ribbons and handed them out to friends and the entire theater department at Mtn. View Middle school wore purple, along with my friends who I spread the word to.  I wish there was something I could do to help my Grandma, but there is not... this was something I could do to show my love and support for her though, and it was fun!!!
