I just got this message from my sister:
Today the Redlands Recreation Division laid off 9 of their part time employees, by the end of the day word came that layoffs and building closures may get even worse. We are panicking and have a few weeks to show our City Manger and Council how important this division is to the Redlands community. We need you to come and support our Community Center and Recreation Division on Tuesday February 10th at 8am at a City Council budget meeting in the City Hall Council Chambers. Any support you can offer IS NEEDED. For many of you this directly affects your classes, programs and activities; bring your friends, participants and family, whoever is in support of our Recreation Division and is willing to speak up.
Please forward this email to anyone you feel will come out in support the Community Center and the services it provides.
P.S. Even if you can’t be there talk about it, talk about it, talk about it or write to citycouncil@cityofredlands.org!
Thank you!
I am getting sick and tired of this mentality! Why is it the first thing to be cut is programs that involve children?!! Here in Beaumont our school district has to cut 8 MILLION DOLLARS! They are shutting down 2 elementary schools and a Jr. High. One of the elementary schools runs the only dual immersion program so there will be a few hundred children below grade level because there is such a huge deficit! Of course they can't skim down the administrative levels and their car allowances ... Oh and the fact that there is on Superintendent and two assistants! INSANE!!!
Then this news from Erin, makes me ill! June 15, 2009 could be the last day the doors are open at the Redlands Community Center. This is going to affect hundreds and hundreds of children and their families.
I'm not political, but it is time to take a stand! This is getting out of hand!
